Free women of Monte Alto / As Atochas. Safe houses.
A multidisciplinary creation that blends theatrical dramaturgy, dance, music, poetry, and audiovisual media. A journey from a fictionalized case (based on historical facts) to a universal story.
The performance centers on the real-life figure of Alicia Dorado, a 25-year-old anarchist and baker, and her safe house on Carmen Street No. 6, in the city of A Coruña. Speaking in the first person, she tells us about love, life in the safe houses, activism, commitment, relationships with her fellow comrades, the neighborhood, and the idea of freedom—all within a context of harsh repression that ended on July 10, 1937, with her death and that of her companions during a police raid.
“Those who do not appear in world history, appear in the crime pages of the local press. The nobodies, who cost less than the bullet that kills them.”
—Eduardo Galeano
